Killing Moira

Today I killed Moira Clarin. The world will be a better place without her. Don’t get me wrong – she was beautiful, funny, outgoing…she really brightened the place up a bit. But her time had come.

You see, Moira’s murdered husband was a Priari, a member of an ancient sect whose calling is to protect those who make the crossing into the Shadowlands. Today I decided that the Priari do not exist (Oh, the power of the author).

Without her dead husband’s calling, what purpose did she serve? Sure, she was witty and charming, and made some mean soda bread, but this is a novel, not the real world. You cannot exist without a purpose.

And so today we say goodbye to Moira. She lived a short and tragic life, and will not be crossing into the Aetherlands with Aynia. Maybe she will find her place in the Fairerlands.

RIP Moira Clarin (June 12, 2010-August 20, 2012)

Brave woman, it can be so hard to kill your darlings but all the writerly tips on the internet say you did the right thing!

V: I also killed about 5,000 words…so I’m working up to feeling good about it:)
